A family-run Dublin nursing home is to open a new retirement facility with the creation of 110 jobs. The 92-bed Ferndene Nursing and Retirement Home in Blackrock is due to open in the coming weeks.

Strong Demand for High-Level ICT Skills:  A forthcoming report from the Expert Group on Future Skills Needs highlights continuing strong demand from enterprise for high-level ICT skills, both within the ICT sector and across other sectors of the economy. The study forecasts the demand for high-level computing and electronic and electrical engineering skills over the next five years.

The ICT sector is of strategic importance to the Irish economy both in terms of the numbers of high-skilled professionals employed (an estimated 68,280 ICT professionals in 2012) and its significant contribution to Irish exports performance - accounting for almost €70 billion per annum.

Field management company FMI is to create 60 new full time jobs as part of its continuing expansion. Established in 1995, FMI employs more than 50 people at its head office in Dundrum in Dublin. The company's clients include Electric Ireland, Glanbia and Pepsico.

FMI provides a range of services which include direct sales, merchandising, in-store promotions and demonstrations, retail auditing and price checking.

Aldi to create 160 jobs at distribution centre

Discount grocer Aldi is to open a new regional distribution centre creating 160 jobs. The facility in Mitchelstown, Co Cork will have capacity to service 100 shops and was developed as part of the company's plans to open new outlets across the country.

It will primarily supply stores in Cork, Kerry, Limerick, Tipperary, Waterford, Clare, Mayo, Galway, Kilkenny and Wexford.

Up to 40 new technology jobs are to come on stream in Cork at Xanadu Consultancy, the company confirmed this morning. Xanadu has grown from a start-up employing four people in 2011 to 54 people today.

The new roles are primarily in IT with vacancies in software engineering, business analysis, application support, data analytics and system architecture.

Taoiseach Enda Kenny has opened a €100m extension to the Irish Distillers plant at Midleton in Co Cork.

The facility, which was built in a year, will allow the company to double the production capacity of the plant to 64 million litres of pure alcohol.

The plant, which produces Jameson whiskey, had been operating at full capacity to meet demand and the expansion has created 60 new jobs.

Pet food manufacturer Gaines are to create 15 new jobs at their facility in Arklow

Gaines Europe, a subsidiary of parent company Rondo Food, will bring total employment in Arklow to 85 people, with the support of Enterprise Ireland.

The jobs will be created predominantly in engineering, development and product manufacturing.

Tesco expansion to create 200 jobs

Tesco Ireland has said it will create over 200 jobs over the next year by opening new stores and mobile phone shops. The company said 80 jobs will be created by the end of this year in its previously announced €70m capital investment programme.

The new positions include 48 jobs at new express stores in Douglas Road, Cork; College Green, Dorset Street, Leonard's Corner and Glasnevin Avenue in Dublin. The company will create 14 jobs at new Tesco mobile phone shops in Maynooth, Tallaght, Drogheda, Clearwater, Wilton and Clare Hall.
