IRISH ECONOMY TO GROW FASTER THAN EXPECTED

The domestic economy is expected to grow slightly faster this year than initially forecast, the Central Bank has said.

In its second outlook for 2014, the institution said continued improvements in the unemployment figures were the clearest indication of a sustained recovery.

The Central Bank originally forecast the home-grown sector of the economy – businesses which keep profits in the country and is measured by gross national product – to grow by 2.2% this year and 2.5% in 2015.

But it has upgraded that to 2.7% and 2.6% respectively.
